Meditation Commentaries

Each week, Verity students are assigned a passage of Scripture to meditate on and memorize. At the end of the week, they write a one-two page commentary on the insights they have gleaned from studying the passage of Scripture.

We invite you to share their thoughts by reading through the commentary archives below.

A Graduate’s Testimony

Kristina Kroon

Kristina Kroon is an ’06 English graduate from Michigan.

“Meditation Commentaries are, in my opinion, one of the best aspects of the Verity program. Every week students at Verity are assigned a passage of Scripture on which to meditate and memorize. At the end of the week, we are required to write a meditation commentary, which is a short essay that describes the new insights we are learning and that explains how we are applying the verses in our lives.

“While I was a Verity student (I’m an ’06 alumnus), I came to deeply appreciate these weekly assignments; they motivated me to articulate God’s working in my life. What started out as merely another assignment to check off my “To Do” List became for me one of the highlights of my college career. The meditation commentaries forced me to process—to look for, think through, and write down—what God was teaching me. Even though I’ve graduated and no longer have the meditation commentary assignments, I’ve continued the rich habit.”
