“Run to Win”
Racing, one of the oldest sports known to mankind, remains popular— especially at Verity this Fall.
Partially inspired by the PT program implemented into the guys’ weekly schedule, the racing started in August when approximately twenty Verity students and staff headed back up to Flint, Michigan for the 10-mile CRIM (also known as the Coolest Race In Michigan). Many others went up for the fellowship and the opportunity to cheer the runners on.
Several weeks later an opportunity arose for another race, this one here in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Kelly Eckhart Memorial Race was not quite so daunting since it was only a 5K (approximately 3.1 miles). However, this was still no race for the weak of heart or body. Our own illustrious men’s student coordinator, Micah Fox, won the race with a time of 20 minutes, 15 seconds. Finally in October, Peter Kroon and Paul Jordan topped it off by running the Indianapolis Half Marathon.
Even though the majority of Verity students did not run in any of these competitions, in reality we are all in races of our own. Striving to complete a bachelor’s degree in twenty-one months is a race much more challenging than mere exercise of the body. It takes patience, endurance, and complete dependence on God.
And of course, every Christian, whether in Verity or not, is in the race of life, running toward the mark that Christ has set for us. And when we cross the finish line, the prize is so much greater than a mere medal or large sum of cash. Instead we will get crowns of life and the words we are all waiting to hear from the Lord of the universe: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
