“Music and More”
This fall my fellow ’07 Verity music students and I spent six-and-a-half weeks in Chicago persevering through three music courses with Dr. Kincaid. Through long class hours, sightseeing, and praying, Hannah Dalrymple, Rebekah Johnson, James Samaha, and Shaylene Wright, and I made many memories.
Class time consisted of about nine hours on a full day. Our various personalities combined with Dr. Kincaid’s unique style of teaching made for an exciting learning atmosphere and helped the time go by quickly. Dr. Kincaid had an amazing way of tailoring his instruction to each student. His love for chocolate is probably equal to his love for teaching, which gave us an incredible opportunity for brownie points.
Another great memory was sightseeing in downtown Chicago. We took the train from Hinsdale (where we stayed at the IBLP Headquarters). Our favorite sites from our day downtown included Chinatown; Millennium Park; “the Bean”; and Navy Pier, complete with the Ferris Wheel and the Wave Swing. The Hershey’s Chocolate Factory on Michigan Avenue caught our attention, too, and, upon entering, we could not resist the temptation to purchase the world’s largest chocolate bar (5 lbs.) for Dr. Kincaid. When we gave the chocolate bar to Dr. Kincaid, his face lit up like a student receiving an A+.
Along with the fun and laughter, we also experienced times of intense struggling. The Lord used these impossibilities to teach us to rely completely on Him. Psalm 28:7 became one of our motto verses. “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.” In the Lord’s strength and with the encouragement of others, all of us ’07 music students were all able to complete the three music courses as “more than conquerors through Christ.”
