CIT Program Description
Mathematics
Statistics
An introductory course in statistics that develops skills for performing statistical computations and analyzing data. Topics include measures of central tendency and variation; probability concepts, rules and distribution; normal and sampling distributions; hypothesis tests; and descriptive and inferential methods in regression correlations.
Calculus
An intensive, higher-level course in mathematics that helps students become efficient and creative problem solvers. Topics include the Cartesian plane, limits and continuity, problems of tangents, velocity and instantaneous rates of change, rules for differentiation, implicit differentiation, maxima and minima theory, antiderivatives and the indefinite integral, exponential and logarithmic functions, and the area between curves.
CIT Core
Database Management
Basic concepts of database systems: types of database systems; design and implementation of relational databases; data protection; database management and administration; SQL.
Computer Architecture
This course covers the design and organization of a computer's processor, instruction set, and memory. It also includes Assembly language and interrupts and I/O devices as well as caching and pipelining.
Project Management
This course enhances the student’s ability to function in a project leadership role. While exploring the System development life cycle (SDLC) and project life cycle, students gain experience in budget and timeline management. Project management software is used to design project schedules, using methods such as bar charts, program evaluation and review technique (PERT), and critical path method (CPM) to produce project plans to apply to the solution of case studies.
IT Certifications
MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) Certification
The MCSA credential is for IT professionals who work in the typically complex computing environment of medium-to-large organizations. An MCSA candidate should have 6-12 months of experience with Microsoft products in: implementing and administering a desktop operating system, implementing and administering a network operating system, and managing client and network operating systems. The MCSA certification requires passing 4 different tests:
- Exam 70-270: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Exam 70-290: Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment
- Exam 70-291: Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure
- Elective: CompTIA Security+ Certification (see below)
Many students decide to take the following 3 additional tests to upgrade their MCSA to an MCSE (Microsoft Certified System’s Engineer):
- Exam 70-293 : Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure
- Exam 70-294 : Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure
- Exam 70-298 : Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network
CompTIA Security+ Certification
The CompTIA Security+ Certification covers essential security topics that every systems administrator should know. The level of mastery required to pass is equivalent to that of having two years of security-focused networking experience. Topics include PKI infrastructure, communications security, attack vectors, organizational security and recovery, and authentication and access control mechanisms.
CompTIA I-Net+ Certification
The CompTIA I-Net+ Certification tests for knowledge of Internet and intranet related concepts and models, including e-Commerce and extranet technologies. It requires at least 6 months experience in this area, or equivalent knowledge.
CompTIA Network+ Certification
The CompTIA Network+ Certification requires the knowledge that nine-months of systems and network administration would give. It covers network models, protocols, hardware types, communication media, and network services.
