Verity Institute

Innovative Higher Education

Philosophy of Education

The goal of the Verity Institute is the integration of God’s truth (“verity”) into every area of a student’s personal development and learning. This whole-life approach furthers a young adult’s preparation for a life that brings glory to God and benefit to mankind.

The training offered at Verity is designed to assist a student in becoming a person of faith and character, proclaimer of God’s ways, provider and protector, potential life partner, and effective parent.

I. Person of Faith and Character

It is vital to have a personal experience of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Further, a person who has been reconciled to God through the substitutionary death of Jesus is to grow in faith and in conformity to Christ’s character. Therefore, each Verity student is expected to:

  • Participate in daily chapel
  • Learn basic Bible study skills
  • Follow the rules and guidelines agreed upon for the program
  • Be accountable for daily and weekly assignments
  • Be accountable for daily and weekly spiritual disciplines

II. Proclaimer of God’s ways

“Equipping the saints for the work of ministry” is a function of the church and her ministers. Every member of the church has a calling and a ministry. Each Verity student is encouraged to:

  • Know his/her spiritual gifts
  • Grow in personal ministry skills
  • Develop skills in apologetics
  • Commit to making disciples and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ

III. Provider and Protector

Loving our neighbors includes caring for those whom God has given us responsibility. Therefore, each Verity student is instructed to:

  • Own appropriate personal responsibility
  • Understand economy (work, goods, services, and ethics)
  • Develop qualities of honesty, hard work, initiative, and creativity
  • Gain marketable skills
  • Acquire necessary credentials to serve in arenas of employment

IV. Potential Life Partner

Marriage is a lifelong covenant between God and a man and a woman. One of life’s most important decisions is whether to marry, and to whom. Therefore, each student is trained to:

  • Understand God's purposes for marriage
  • Understand male/female distinctives and roles
  • Seek God and godly counsel regarding personal courtship decisions
  • Grow in personal qualifications outlined in I Timothy 3 & Titus 2
  • Develop marriage counseling skills

V. Effective Parent

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” Psalm 127:3

Therefore, each student is encouraged to:

  • Learn to love and welcome children
  • Learn basic domestic skills
  • Acquire biblically-based parenting skills
